As the founder of Om In The Home ™ my mission is to bring well-being into our most auspicious home of all – our bodies.  As a yoga professional my work is to educate and help my students and clients achieve a sense of well being both physically and mentally.  Yoga is the balance and integration of the physical, mental/psychological, and spiritual aspects of our lives.  We cannot achieve optimal well being when any one of these realms is “out of sorts”. This is not a new concept.  The bookstores are filled with volumes on the body-mind connection.  Our body houses our mind and our mind sends “triggers” to our body.  When any or all of it is out of sync then we are unable to fulfill our highest potential.  We are all here for a reason.  If the outer layers of our being are in ‘dis-ease’, then we can surely not recognize the unique gifts that each one of us is born with and meant to cultivate.  Therein lies the spirituality.  Recognizing our highest potential and living it with intention and clarity in a healthful environment both, inside and out, is the key to sustainable and productive living.

So where does Isagenix fit into the puzzle? To quote Jim and Kathy Coover, the co-founders of Isagenix, “our vision is to impact world health and free people from physical and financial pain, and in the process create the largest health and wellness company in the world”.   So since that sounds pretty “lofty”, let’s break it down.  Isagenix is a company that formulates and manufactures nutritional and weight loss products.  This is where we enter.

The outer layer, that which we see in the mirror.  Our physical body is our home.  We may change addresses and street numbers countless times but we are permanent residents of our body.  The Isagenix products system improves health through cleansing, replenishing, and revitalizing.  “Cleansing keeps the body healthy and is the missing link to supporting health and successful, long term weight loss.”  Think of the word detox, cleaning out the impurities.  We breathe in the same dust that we clean our furniture of using a “swifter”.  “Replenishing the body with nutrients helps to revitalize the body’s systems, leading to vibrant good health.”   We rub furniture oil into our old bookcase after we wipe off the dust to help it look better and last longer.  So as, in our bodies.  Sometimes we need supplements to boost the internal mechanism.  Isagenix formulates products which, when used routinely, in a customized combination, helps us achieve and maintain optimal physical health and weight management.  In combination with other healthy practices like exercise and “downtime” we can achieve a level of being that is vitalizing rather than depleting.

The rewards are many.  The costs are really a few.  As a meal replacement we save money on perhaps 1 to 2 meals a day, substituting a shake (the nutritional blended powder mixed with purified water), the likes of which rival any soda fountain malted.  The various drinks can be a replacement for high sugared commercial juices and teas that fill us with calories and nothing more.   Other products can replace high calorie commercial snacks or supplement vitamins and minerals.  There are various “packages” formulated for specific needs and populations.  When you order the products as “consultant” you are able to purchase them at wholesale.  For the entrepreneur, who may want to take it to another level, there are opportunities for direct marketing distribution and increased income.

Why am I promoting this?  I will quickly share my experience.  I began drinking two Isagenix shakes a day at the beginning of September 2008 and have noticed an increase in lean body mass.  In August I had finally agreed to knee surgery for a significant tear to my meniscus, which occurred in May.  Needless to say I had to modify my yoga practice and workout, considerably, for a number of months.  As a yoga teacher I know what it feels and looks like for my body to be “in feel good shape”.  I was missing the mark a bit.  I felt “fleshier”, even if I did not quite look it. So at the behest of some family friends, who had been using the products systematically, with dramatically noticeable results, I decided to “do it my way” (as Frank Sinatra would sing).  I started with two shakes a day (and a one day cleanse after the first two weeks) and forgot about it.  It became a quick and tasty routine for me before and after work (breakfast and a mid afternoon lunch).  Then I ate dinner.  I was not overly noshy during the day but if I were I would have a fruit or bread or an Isagenix “snack”.  Again, not thinking too much about it.  Eating the type of food I usually eat, which is  predominantly a meatless/dairy less diet.  Two weeks ago I was in my closet lamenting over all the jeans I own that are years old and that was the last time I was able to fit into them, but never wanting to give them away.  How does one give away their first pair of True Religions and other such items?  The practice of detachment having obviously bypassed my clothes closet.  So I started trying them on as I do once or twice a year, always hoping to “get lucky” that they would fit.  And sure enough that very first pair fit with room to spare.  I felt like I had just gone shopping, and in my own closet.  With that said, what I have noticed which is probably more significant is the visually apparent lessening of that “dimpled” look on my thighs. Yesterday, I wore biking shorts for the first time in many years.
